John the Baptist was the forerunner who pointed to Jesus Christ and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." John was the last of the Old Testament Prophets, of whom Isaiah prophesied: "A voice cries: 'In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.'"
